Prusty siblings Samartha and Krishan and Haque brother Asif and Tausif continued their hegemony in table tennis arena of the state, bagging six out of eight singles titles in the Dhaneswar Rath Memorial Inter-District & State Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at DRIEMS Sports Complex, Tangi, Cuttack today.
Krishan and Asif bagged a double each, Samartha claimed the junior girls` singles title and Tausif emerged men’s singles champion. Other two singles titles were claimed by Payal Pani and Anjali Agrawal. Cuttack paddlers also bagged a double, winning the team titles in junior boys and men’s categories. In the finals, Cuttack-A beat Bhubaneswar 3-1 (3-0, 1-3, 3-0, 3-1) and their men got the better of East Coast Railway 3-1 (3-1, 3-2, 0-3, 3-1).
Around 250 paddlers from 15 districts and six institutions participated in 12 events of the the four-day championship was hosted by DRIEMS Sports Academy, under the auspices of Odisha State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA).
Odisha Olympic Association secretaty Ashirbad Behera handed over the trophies at the closing function. DRIEMS founder chairman Pramod Chandra Rath, OSTTA secretary Rabindra Kumar Parida, Odisha Cricket Association joint-secretary Sanjeev Dutta, treasurer Satya Mohanty and DRIEMS sports director Naba Kishore Mishra were present on the occasion.
